Marak Fleet

The Marak Republic

The Marak are an old, long established republic which has been slowly expanding from their homeworld of Tursk for 100’s of years. Whilst they do have a democratic core to their species the military have a large say in how things are run, with military service almost seen as a right of passage for many young Marakians.

Whilst the Marak themselves are not overtly hostile or xenophobic they do have a strong sense of pride when it comes to their own species which has unfortunately bread a sense of superiority towards other species. This belief led directly to the first major interstellar war for control of the remaining areas of the now defunct Chumesian Empire, as they believed humanity to be little more then upstarts who had occupied Chumesian territory, space long held to be Marakian by right.

Fleet

~ Kovar class Dreadnought:

Appearing shortly after the war started in an apparent attempt to counter Alliance Navy Dreadnaughts, this class has seen limited but increasing use as more of them are launched. Comparable to Alliance navy dreadnaughts, They were initially used as support vessels for the Marak carrier groups but have been recently used in more offensive roles as more vessels enter service.

~ Krendak class Fleet Carrier:

An older class of fleet carrier they, along with the Ren class, make up the core of most Marak battle groups. Large numbers of these vessels were launched before and during the war and quickly become a major threat to Alliance Navy activities.

~ Ren class Fleet Carrier:

The newest class of fleet carrier to enter service with the Marak, They were planned to replace the Krendak class but instead were used to compliment them. Along with the Krendak class, these form the core of most Marak battle groups.

~ Sanek class Medium Cruiser:

Originally only one of two classes of large cruisers encountered by Alliance forces before the war broke out and used as support vessels for the Marak carrier fleets. Since the war started increasing numbers have been encountered, supplementing the new Marak dreadnaughts that have been engaged.

~ Taros class Medium Cruiser:

The Taros class were encountered more recently than the Sanek class, suggesting they were a recent addition to the Marak navy. A newer version of the older class, they trade armour thickness for an increase in speed and manoeuvrability. Whilst making them a bigger threat to Alliance battlegroups as a result, they are more vulnerable to mass battery fire.

~ Aurus class Light Cruiser:

Along with the Yarent class, this class has only recently entered service with the Marak navy, having only been encountered a few years before the war broke out. These two classes now form the bulk of the Marak navy's cruiser squadrons and generally operate as support vessels in their carrier groups.

~ Yarent class Light Cruiser:

Along with the Aurus class, this class has only recently entered service with the Marak navy, having only been encountered a few years before the war broke out. These two classes now form the bulk of the Marak navy's cruiser squadrons. Unlike the Aurus class, Yarent class vessels have been encountered operating on their own as raiders and in small battle groups. The reason for this change in tactics has not been determined, though it has been speculated that the Marak are attempting to emulate the Alliance navy's success in this field.

~ Boros Class Escort Carrier:

A common class of capital ship observed in Marak fleets both before and during the war, they often supplement Marak fleet carriers and have started to be used in increasing frequency in lone wolf operations against Alliance shipping.

~ Orter Class Escort Carrier:

A class of escort carrier which has only recently been observed in Marak battle groups since the war broke out. They appear to be an attempt at creating a more effective commerce raider or possible replacement for the Brors class.

~ Kovos class Destroyer:

A capable class of vessel and one which has seen action against Alliance vessels on almost every recorded engagement. A recent reduction in reported numbers of the class has led to the speculation that they are being phased out in favour of the Daiester class.

~ Daiester class Destroyer:

A class of vessel which has been observed in increasing numbers since the war started, it is speculated that this is the replacement for the Kovos class and was an attempt to design a class of destroyer which could out-class any comparable Alliance navy vessel.

~ Corvo class Frigate:

A common class of frigate both before and during the war, primarily used to protect the Marak carrier groups but it has been observed that they are also used for recon and lone wolf operations.

~ Alster class Frigate:

A less common class of frigate which it is believed has only just entered service, they appear to be a response to recent engagements to attempt to make a heavier, more capable class of frigate. The Marak however appear to be launching both classes in large numbers.

~ Aras class Corvette

Observed to be primarily system defence and rapid reaction vessels, these are usually the first enemy vessels engaged around enemy systems. they have seen increased use in carrier groups however.

~ Metek class Corvette:

Believed to be a modern upgrade of the Aras class, which sacrifices speed and manoeuvrability in exchange for increased resilience and firepower. They are usually used as recon vessels for the Marak carrier groups.

~ Kios class Corvette:

Only recently observed in Marak battlegroups, Its unusual armament implies a torpedo gun boat however its lack of any obvious access hatches (determined by unsuccessful boarding attempts) combined with its surprising speed and manoeuvrability implies that this is in fact an un-crewed vessel controlled by the same basic AI technology used in Marak torpedo's. Alliance navy command are attempting to determine if this is a sole type of vessel or signifies a dramatic change in the way the Marak will fight the war
